Visibility of the Astrological Correspondences in tarot cards

Updated: Jun 23, 2024

The Three of Pentacles, The Thoth tarot, the Rider Waite Smith, The TOMAR tarot Mars in Capricorn symbols

🌞 Some simple tarot history 🌚 Since the popular 'Rider Waite Smith' tarot deck (first printed in 1909), most tarot card meanings are based on the astrological correspondences assigned to them by 'The Golden Dawn' (1888). 'The Three of Pentacles' shown here for example, is 'Mars in Capricorn', which suggests that our confidence (ambitious Mars) is growing, because we are honing our practical talents (earthly Capricorn). Like many other modern decks, the RWS (middle card) doesn't feature this astrological information overtly, instead it's suggested by the ‘scene’ on the card. The apprentice Stone Mason is having their 'work' (their passion) appraised, and recieving favourable criticism, they feel confident in their future talents. For the few decks that do show this Astrological correspondence through symbols, it is usually in their 'glyph' form, like the 'Thoth' deck (1944/1969) shown here on the left. For many beginners ‘glyph’ astrological symbols don't resonate because we have no reference for them - but we do know what simple pictures mean. To give us a helping hand in our tarot readings, the TOMAR tarot deck (card on the right, 2024) annotates all these astrological correspondences in an 'easy to see way' so we can draw on them in our tarot readings and rituals. 🔥 🐐 🌙  #threeofpentacles #marsincapricorn #tarot #tomar #tarothistory #astrologicalcorrespondances
